Daniëlle Huls
Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
In July 2022, Daniëlle Huls, a Dutch architect and urban planner was AIR – Artist in Residence in Krems. Huls leads her own office for architecture, KettingHuls, which she founded in 2013 with Monica Ketting. KettingHuls works on projects that vary in scope, dimension and program; from objects to architecture to urban planning. KettingHuls' architectural practice is open-minded, with an eye for the inhabited environment and seeking beauty in the everyday, with an interest in the concept of slow living.
During her stay, Daniëlle Huls will deal with the typology of the „Vierkanter“, the square courtyard farm houses in the Mostviertel and make a comparison between them and the Dutch Carréboerderijs; in terms of their appearance, but also in terms of uses, functions and construction. Huls is interested in further conceptually developing this building typology, which houses life and work, in order to elaborate models of collective housing in the countryside and to rethink it from a sustainable and self-sufficient perspective.
