ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
The Artist in Residence is an interdisciplinary program for foreign architects, artists, musicians, and writers that was brought to life by the administration of Lower Austria with the intention of stimulating international cultural exchange and intercultural dialogue. Each year, different artists are chosen to receive scholarships.
ORTE has been Lower Austria’s partner for the Artist in Residence Architecture category since 2001. In this time, numerous architects, landscape planners, expert authors, and art producers from throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas have come to Krems and helped shape the building culture here. Thanks to these individuals, a great number of exciting lectures and impressive presentations have been put on the ORTE program.
In the AIR archive, you can discover how differently these artists, with their “view from outside”, have perceived and evaluated the architecture and cultural landscape of Lower Austria over the years.
ORTE Architekturnetzwerk Niederösterreich in cooperation with AIR – Artist in Residence Niederösterreich awards two scholarships each year to creative artists from the field of building culture for a period of either five or eleven weeks. The scholarship, financed by the state of Lower Austria, is endowed with EUR 1,950 for five and EUR 3,900 for eleven weeks. Studio and accommodation are provided free of charge. Prerequisite for a successful application is a degree in an architectural relevant discipline. The online application portal for the 2025 residency will be open between March 4th and April 30th, 2024.
