LIBRARY
The Walter Zschokke Library in the Krems Art Quarter
Architecture in Lower Austria is an interplay of town and country, with the regional government stepping out of its once more passive role.
Walter Zschokke (*15 January 1948 in Wildegg, Switzerland, † 5 February 2009 in Vienna)
Renowned architectural writer Walter Zschokke was an ORTE board member for many years and made a permanent impression on the work of the association. After his death, ORTE was honored with his collection of architecture books, which are now available to interested parties in our reference library. The library is located in the ORTE office space and has a pleasant atmosphere that invites visitors to browse and research. The ORTE team is at your service to answer any questions. The approximately 3200 publications are organized into the following key categories:
- Architecture (Austria and international, with a focus on Switzerland)
- Architecture education
- Architecture and art
- Architecture and art history before and after 1900
- Architecture theory
- Fine arts
- Design
- Building typology
- Landscape
- Materials
- Monographs
- Urbanism
This is rounded out by reference books and an extensive collection of trade journals that is continually being expanded. The Walter Zschokke Library will continue to grow, and ORTE strives for continued publication exchanges with other architecture institutions, libraries, and publishers in Austria and abroad. The ORTE team is always happy to receive donations, get visits, and chat with you! ORTE will gladly exchange its own publications and book doubles for other publications that are not yet part of the Walter Zschokke Library.
