Learning about building culture: bink supports teachers
Teaching children and young adults about architecture, spatial planning, building technology, and landscape design is the main focus of bink (Built Environment Education Association), a network of initiatives throughout Austria. ORTE is an active part of bink, establishing architecture education in and out of schools in Lower Austria.
The goal is to provide young people with everyday skills for interacting with the designed and built environment as early as possible and often through play. Architecture is anchored in the curricula of a number of different disciplines, yet it becomes a part of school lessons only when a teacher happens to be personally interested in it. And this is where bink comes in: The bink platform provides a kaleidoscope of work materials, internet and literature tips, projects, events, and competitions for teachers with the aim of supporting their engagement with building culture education.
One special tool for this is the Building Culture Compass. This is an educational poster with ideas and instructions for teaching about building culture in class, created by bink. The building culture compasses – there are now a total of eight different ones – will be mailed to you at your request. Please send us a short message at office@bink.at or office@orte-noe.at.
