The artist herself about the Krems proposal:
A participative project - reflecting today’s seek of communication and cooperation amongst our children.
When I was working on my postgraduate project named NO-object 1-5, I had the opportunity to work with pre-school kids. I designed the objects for preschool space based on idea of free play and education. Few years ago I was shortly working in a kindergarden as a teacher and I realised that kids needs to play and learn more freely.
The Slovak system of education in kindergardens is based basically on learning in a way the kids are educated in primary schools. The result is, too much learning, educating and sitting still in very early years of kids' life. The kindergardens getting to be primary schools. I was learning how designers and artists are designing the kids spaces. The most impressive are Japanesse and Nordic ways how to design kid’s friendly spaces. I realized that my goal would be to design the object for play, which follow the idea of free learn through colours, shapes and sizes. I designed playing objects, not exactly specified in shape, which let kids imagination to grow, let them to be open.
Early childhood playtime is the most important time to develope cognitive, physical and emotional skills. I would like to continue in the idea of making space for kids more friendly, open for their imagination. I had great time to watch kids play, see how they learn, I could study their behavior and learn a lot about them. As a pre-step I organized and realized several workshops which let kids think about space and play. As a first step they designed their own preeschol as a whole building, in a next step we looked closer to design the playtime space. These analysis were my learning subject for designing my own playtime room filled with objects to play.
The project of No-objects are still not finished. I let it open, that is why I would like to develope it. As a topic of my Artist Residence I would be concern on communication, cooperation between ages realised through art and personal participation. Kids are wise and open and we should go back to the time of our childhood to get our thinking out of the box. There is a need to let our ideas rise through art. Main Aim is to combine Art, Design, participation and disscussion through generations.
