ORTE Architekturnetzwerk Niederösterreich was founded in 1994 and is dedicated to promoting and communicating high quality architecture and planning culture. With building visits, excursions, discussions, symposiums, publications and film screenings, ORTE fulfills an educational mission throughout Lower Austria. In terms of content, the radius of action of the Lower Austrian architecture house has constantly expanded over the decades: In addition to architectural work, today's program also includes topics such as sustainable settlement development, future-oriented transport policy, circular economy or how our society deals with the landscape.
In October 2022, ORTE opened its own exhibition space in the Walter Zschokke library in Krems, where the association's office is also located. This "smallest building culture gallery in Austria" provides space for the works of the artists and architects in residence and presents their artistic and analytical view of building culture topics in the region. It also wants to offer architects from neighboring countries a platform for presenting their achievements. You will find ORTE on the art mile in Krems – next to the caricature museum.
