Lower Austria - The Architectural Landscape | Weinviertel Region

The Weinviertel region – the largest winegrowing region in Austria – likes to showcase its picturesque side, replete with romantic wine cellar lanes and long cycling routes. However, full of contrasts and particularities, this region has far more than just scenery to offer. Theresia Hauenfels, Elke Krasny and Andrea Nussbaum present here 164 striking works of architecture from 1919 to the present. The section spans from public buildings to private cultural and educational institutions, churches, businesses, and industrial buildings to private homes, plaza designs, and art in public space. Articles by Henrieta Moravcikova, Dominik Scheuch, Gerhard A. Stadler, and Michael Stavaric along with an interview with Andreas Breuss, highlight the cross-border history of the region, the roles played by natural resources and loam building, and the charm of built structures and living situations. Photographer Andreas Buchberger illustrates the building culture of the district with his distinctive and clear imagery.
